pango

1. (adjective) be black, dark in colour.

kāhu pango

1. (noun) juvenile harrier hawk, immature harrier hawk (Circus approximans gouldi) - as the bird matures and ages the plumage changes from the blackish-brown of the juvenile immature bird to the pale greyish brown of the old bird.

1. (noun) light-mantled sooty albatross, Phoebetria palpebrata - a large seabird with sooty-brown head, throat and wings. The back from nape to rump is ash-grey and the bill is black with a blue line along the lower bill.

manu pango

1. (noun) blackbird, Turdus merula - a very common introduced bird. Male is glossy black with orange-yellow bill and yellow eye-ring, while the female is dark brown with a brownish bill.

tōrea pango

1. (noun) variable oystercatcher, Haematopus unicolor - a sea-coast wading bird slightly larger than the pied oystercatcher, with black-and-white or all-black plumage and a strong orange-red bill. Feeds chiefly on shellfish.

1. (noun) fantail, Rhipidura fuliginosa - a small, friendly, insect-eating bird of the bush and domestic gardens which has a distinctive tail resembling a spread fan. This sooty-black variety has a white dot behind each eye. Found in the South Island and the Wellington area only.

1. you're a copout - an idiom to suggest that a person's Māori identity is only skin deep.
